Substance Abuse
Substance abuse has no boundaries and can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, religion or economic status. The programs in the Substance Abuse area serve adult individuals, families and adolescents who are struggling to overcome their addictions. Programs are offered on an outpatient basis and include substance abuse evaluations, individual and group counseling, education through the Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center (IDRC) and linkage to community support groups.
Catholic Charities has several locations to meet the growing needs of this service. The Bridgewater office provides an intensive outpatient group for adolescents that meet after school and is designed to facilitate the road to recovery, as well as an adolescent prevention group and community outreach. The East Brunswick Office offers a specialized program for dually diagnosed Mentally Ill Chemical Abusers (MICA), along with traditional programming for outpatient substance abuse counseling and treatment in both a group or individual setting. The Edison Office is the home base for the Child Protection Substance Abuse Initiative for the NJ Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) for the Counties of Middlesex, Union, and Essex. This program assesses families for substance abuse issues and makes treatment referrals in response to possible abuse and neglect situations.
